Start of Something New

This week I started football lifting + track practice. I know that for the first couple of weeks I will be so sore that I can't move, but I will also be in the best shape of my life. This is the last week of regular classes before finals and then christmas break!!!! I'm excited to be done with classes for this semester. It was a long semester, but I had a lot of fun and I think that my grades will be pretty good.

Turkey Day

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! I hope everyone is having a good time re-connecting with family and enjoying some good home cooking. This particular Thanksgiving weekend is very important to me because I will be playing football for the first time this late in the season. It has been a while since I did some major blogging so I should fill you in. The football team won the conference and we received an automatic bid into the NCAA D-III playoffs. Since then we knocked off our first opponent, Case Western Reserve, 51-38. This Saturday we face the team out of Wittenberg University. They are a tough team, but we have a good shot at winning and continuing our success in the post season.

Between football, school, and my job as an RA, my life has been very hectic lately. I have a class load of 18 hours which is proving to be a big case load, but I am still managing to get the good grades. I have enjoyed being an RA in Platt first floor also. My floor has really come together and formed a nice community. It is rare to see a door closed, everyone is always around each other. So until next time....

Conference Game

Well tomorrow the football team is playing Olivet up @ Olivet. I'm pretty excited about it because it is another chance to get a conference win. We need to continue to win these games so we can be MIAA champs again this year.

As far as school work goes, I had two mid-terms yesterday and I think I did pretty well on them. I had one in my Music Appreciation and one in State & Local Government. The government one took a little bit longer because it was an essay exam, but I think I did well anyway

Well wish us luck up at Olivet!

Football/School

Me and Cody(roommate)------>
The 2009 school year is going great so far! I am enjoying being an RA at Platt, and football is continue to win games. We had a tough loss to Franklin two weeks back but we have since bounced back since conference play and are 3-1 so far. Homecoming was this past week and we beat our first conference team Hope. Next week we face Alma and will try to continue to win during the conference. My floor here at Platt has had a lot of fun getting to know each other and we all get along great. Well until next time!

Back to School

HEY....to anyone who is reading this....Summer is coming to an end and I couldn't be more happy. Although I did enjoy working at Trine this summer I miss all my college friends. Looking back on the summer though it did go pretty fast. I worked 40 hours a week in Admissions at Trine with Katie Shoppell and Nick Garstka. At first we didn't know each other but we ended up all being really good friends. Helping out at SOAR(Summer Orientation and Registration) was probably the highlight of my summer job. I got a chance to meet all the incoming students and even connect with a couple of the new football players that will be on the team next year.
Speaking of football, this next year I'll have another chance to secure some playing time. With the foot injury during the second game I missed more than half of the season, but I've been working hard all summer and plan to compete for some good playing time next season. In fact, football starts very soon, in less than a week all football players are to report to campus for a fall camp where we will have two-a-days and other practices before the start of the regular season. I am looking forward to the new season and hope it all goes well and we continue our success as MIAA champions.
This Sunday I will move into Platt Hall here on campus to start my RA(resident assistant) training. All football RA's have to report a little bit earlier than the rest so we can get some training in before we are too preoccupied with football camp. But all in all I think I am ready to come back to school: Bills are paid, I've been lifting and running, and Classes are ready to start.

BUSY BUSY BUSY

The last two weeks have been the most busy I have been all year!!! Its that time of the semester when you finally realize that you have to start that 10 page paper that you heard about briefly at the beginning of the semester. So far I am pleased with where I am in all my classes I think that my lowest grade may be a C. As the semester comes to an end its hard to believe that my first year of college is over!!! It went by so fast but I had a lot of fun and I cant wait to do it again next year. A lot of the friendships I made here at Trine will last a long time and I cant wait to hang out this summer. But with summer also comes a lot of work. I'm going to be working here at Trine in Admissions and I plan on spending a lot of time in the weight room and on the track to prepare for next football season. Speaking of football, this past Saturday we had our Spring inter squad scrimmage. I did pretty well and I had a lot of fun. I can't wait for next season. When I haven't been studying I had some fun with my friends and made some YouTube videos! We started our own comedy group called the Candy Apple Gridiron Gang!!! We do a lot of random things and just have fun on the weekends check out all our new videos!! http://www.youtube.com/user/candyapplegridiron

Well I better get back to all that homework! Summer is coming soon, enjoy the good weather while it lasts
PS: I am the one in the light blue 17 jersey in the picture at the top

Phi Eta Sigma/Weekend

Today I got inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. It was such an honor to be apart of the select few freshman that are qualified to join. This is a freshman honor society and is offered to students who obtain a 3.5-4.0 GPA in their first year. I was so glad that even playing two sports I was able to maintain my grades and earn a spot in this honor society. Another big surprise came when I was nominated and selected to be the vice president of our class. There are four officer positions that were selected which include the president, vice, treasurer, and secretary. I was very excited to be elected as the vice president I know I will do the best job that I can.

Well, academics aside, I'm ready for the weekend! Sig Ep is hosting an event called Spike Fest '09 and I know a lot of the brothers in the fraternity so I plan on going. A live band on Friday, volleyball tournament on Saturday, and friends are the perfect combination for a great weekend! All proceeds from this event will go to Relay for life, which is also being held this weekend here at Trine. So the weekend is set, now I just have to get through the rest of the week!!!

Happy at Trine

This weekend I was reminded how much I like being at Trine. I got the chance to go down to West Lafayette and visit some friends at Purdue University. It was a very nice campus, but it was so big! I felt like I was lost every time we walked some where. I listened to their stories about how they could go days without seeing someone they knew while walking around on campus. With over 40,000 people on campus I could definitely believe them. Seeing the huge campus and then hearing the stories made me happy to be at Trine. I like being able to see people I know each day! They said they enjoyed school down there so I guess everyone has a different idea of the perfect college. Another crazy fact that my friends said was that most of his classes have 300 students in them! My biggest is 30, and I like being able to talk to my professors it makes for a very good study environment. So I learned a lot about my college decision and found out that I made a great choice. And It was nice to see my old friends. Until next time...

Fun-Filled Weekend

I had a great weekend! On Saturday I got to spend time with recruits for XC and Track here at Trine. It was nice to give a tour and joke around with future teammates. The best part of the tour was that we got a sneak peak at the ARC. Which is the new track field house that is almost done. I also got to speak to some players that were also interested in playing football here at Trine. I think that they all enjoyed the visit and I hope to see them on campus next year. After meeting with recruits I had to head home to take care of some stuff with my car, but I came back Sunday and had a lot of laughs with my friends here. We decided to make a youtube video and it ended up being a lot of fun.

Coming to an End

Well, Spring break is coming to an end and it went by so fast! It has been a pretty good week even though I didn't get to go to Florida or anything like that. On Tuesday my friend Jordan, who is also in my profile picture, both went up to Onsted, Michigan to visit our friend Ryan. It was really cool to see his home town and how different it was then mine and also Jordan's. We rented some really funny movies, relaxed, and even got some good hot tub time in. That was probably the best part of spring break so far. I have gotten to see so many old familiar faces and that is the second best part of break. All the old teachers and coaches are always so excited to see you again and I get to tell the about all the good things that I like about Trine. I also liked seeing former teammates at school when I went to lift with them. It gave me a chance to do a little player "recruiting" and tell them anything they wanted to know about our football team as well as our track team. So now that the week is coming to an end I'm gonna have to start on all that homework I've been putting off!

Start of Spring Break

Spring Break is only a couple days in and the weather is already playing games on me! Friday and Saturday were very nice days and I even wore shorts! Now its starting to rain, but hopefully it wont last for that long. I don't have that much homework so I plan on doing a lot of relaxing this break. I also think I might get some volunteer hours in here in my community at the local schools. It would be a good way to keep busy and not completely waste my days. I got to see my mid-terms this weekend and I was very happy with them. They were a lot better than I had expected, so I know I can do well even though I have a tougher schedule this semester.

Good Weekend

I had a great weekend spending time with my friends this weekend! On Saturday night my roommate Cody and I had at least 10 people in our room playing the Nintendo Wii. It was so fun! we all played a bowling game and an Olympics game which really made us tired. There is a lot of movement involved in the Olympics game so we had to take turns a lot! I think it was a nice little hang out right before Spring Break weekend. I know I'm probably not going to see a lot of my friends over the break. On top of not seeing friends I'm also going to be on crutches for spring break! I am not excited for that but I will enjoy being home and seeing my family. Also the break from school work will be well worth it!

A Chance to be Heard

Yesterday I got to go down to Indianapolis with 8 of my other classmates to help promote SSACI. SSACI is Indiana's federal funding of students and they award a lot of money to help students attend college. As a student who gets funding from SSACI I was asked to come down and help lobby in the Indiana State House. It was a great experience and I was even able to tour the State house and write letters to my senator and state representative. I had a lot of fun and it was nice to see how politics around me actually work. I hope that the voices of the many students that went down to Indy are heard and that Indiana continues to support SSACI and help students with their higher education goals.

Tough Loss for the Lady Thunder

Tonight I got a chance to go see the final game for the Lady Thunder basketball team. It was a great game and it came right down to the wire but they ended up losing by two points. Their last shot just barely missed and would have sent the game into overtime. I felt bad for the seniors because it was their last regular season home game that they would every play in college. They played hard and I was glad to be there and cheer them on. GO THUNDER

The New Week

Well, its the new week and I'm starting to get used to the fact that I have 8am classes everyday. I'm going to go read to another class at Hendry Park Elementary school today in about a half hour which should be another fun trip. Also today I am going to do a lot of catch up work for my classes that I missed last week due to my surgery. I know that I have to make up a test in N. American Geography and I also have to prepare a presentation for that class. Since my English class is canceled tomorrow I'll probably use that time to take care of the work that I missed last week in that class. When I read today at Hendry Park, I'm going to be representing MSO(Multicultural Student Organization) and just try and get our name out through the community. I am really glad that I am a part of MSO and it has helped me meet new people and try new things. So this week will be a lot of make-up work and hopefully I'll get to go watch some of the sporting events going on at Trine this week!

Re-coop

Well I had my surgery on my foot and everything went well. The only down side is that now I will be on crutches for 6 weeks, I have to miss the rest of my classes this week, and I'm on some major pain killers. As you can see from the picture above I have a pretty good sized screw in my foot now which will stay there for the rest of my life. Because this is the second time I broke my foot they put it in there to give extra support. I am really glad that the snow and ice are going away because crutches on ice=slipping, and I do not like falling! So now that I'm on bed rest I'm just gonna try and read some books from my classes and try not to fall behind. Pray for good weather!

Start of a New Week

Today is the start of what is going to be a very long week. To start things off I got my test back in my eight o' clock government class. I was one of the few that got an A! This was great news for me because test with this professor are very hard for me. He does not believe in multiple choice tests so they are all Essay exams which take me at least two pages front&back to get the grade I want. After my eight o' clock I took a test in my World Civ. Class. I am pretty sure that that will be another A, I did a lot of studying this weekend for that test so i think that I was well prepared for that test. As soon as I finished that test I got the opportunity to be a celebrity reader at Hendry Park Elementary School here in Angola. I read a international version of Cinderella to Mrs. Cox class and they really enjoyed it! In fact they enjoyed it so much that I read two more books for them and we talked about them all after. They were a great group of kids and I signed up to read to another class next week. I think that having a new face in the classroom really gets kids excited and ready for the day, and as a education major I think that this was some good experience dealing with children. On Friday I got to participate in the 19th Annual MLK program here at Trine where I received first prize for my essay about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.! Well the next post will defiantly explain how my surgery went.

Bad News Bears

So the weekend is over and I got to have my meet against my friend from high school. The unfortunate part of this weekend is that I re-broke my left foot while running the 4x200 relay on Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan. The sad thing is that it was the very first event of the day so it ruined the entire meet for me. On top of that, my mom showed up to see me run about 10 min after I had run that event so she did not get to see me because she planned on watching me run the 400. From the events that I could see I team did fairly well. We a have a lot of new runners on the track team and I think in the future we will be really good. So now I have another injury and will have to stop running track this year. I am going to get a surgery which should help my foot heal quickly and prevent it from breaking again. Other than the unfortunate event at the track meet I had a great weekend. On Sunday i watched the super bowl and watched in disgust as the Steelers beat the Cardinals. I was defiantly rooting for Arizona, but they just couldn't pull it out. Well, until next time....

What a Week!

Wow...this week has been one of the longest so far this semester. Because I play both football and run track here at Trine I'm required to participate in both of the conditioning exercises. So for the past two weeks I have had double work to do for my sports, but I know it is going to pay off! I actually ran in my first indoor track meet this past Saturday. I did a lot better than I expected to do and placed second in the 400m race. This Saturday we are traveling to Indiana Wesleyan for the indoor invite at their facilities. I am really excited to race them because one of my former teammates from high school now runs at IWU. He is a great athlete and I know he'll really push me as we race in the 400. Other than sports I have been focusing on my school work and keeping my good grades. Tomorrow I have a reflective paper due for my Comp II class and I am really enjoying my topic. The professor instructed us to write the reflection essay on something that we wonder about and I had one thing pop into my head. WHY DO GIRLS ALWAYS GO TO THE BATHROOM TOGETHER? Well, the world may never know, but it provides a good topic to reflect on.

A Part of History

Yesterday was a major part of history as President Barack Obama was sworn into office. It felt so surreal as I watched Obama give is inaugural address yesterday. Although I had to miss the live speech I was able to catch it as it was played again that night. I think that it was so nice that Trine opened up Fabiani theater to the entire campus to watch this memorable moment. The first black president being elected into office, sworn in, and no well on his way to making a change. Obama's speech was truly a work of wonders and he is quite a powerful speaker. My friends from high school was actually in D.C. at the time of the inauguration and she said that she was moved to tears by his words. I hope that Obama will do a great job as our 44th president of the United States of America.

The New Semester Routine

Now that I am three days into the new semester here at Trine I have gotten an idea of what kind of classes I will be taking. My Tuesday and Thursday schedule is where the bulk of my classes are with 8am Comp II, 9:15 North American Geography, and 12:30 Math class. I think that my math class will be my biggest challenge because it is something that does not come easy for me. I am more English oriented and I hope to do well in my Comp II class. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I only have two classes and am done at 9:45 am. Intro to Government and World Civ are over quickly in the morning and leaves me time to goof off until I work in the mail room from 12-2. Along with the fifteen credit hours I am enrolled in I also decided to run track here at Trine and I am looking forward to the meet that we have tomorrow. Coach Bill Cooper and Doyle Houser are great coaches and put a lot of their own time into the program. So the next post I have should be an update of how my classes are going and how the first indoor meet tomorrow turns out.

End of Break

The holiday break is finally coming to a close and its time to start thinking about the new semester! It is hard to imagine that I have been away from Trine for almost an entire month. While on break I was able to keep in contact with all my good friends from Trine through http://www.facebook.com/. With the extended vacation time it was hard to find something to do at all times so I did a little bit of work while home. I spent a couple days a week when the ground was not covered in snow to help people remove leafs from their lawns. I think that even with the small job I got really tired of being home. I got a chance to visit my friend from Trine that lives in Columbia City which is just a short half hour drive from my house. The best part of being home was spending Christmas with the whole family and seeing old friends. A lot of my friends from high school went to schools very far away and I missed seeing them. When I spent time with them we talked about school and how we all did in classes. My stories were a bit different from theirs because they didn't have the opportunity to actually talk to their professors like I did. Overall the break went well, but I can't wait to return to Trine.
